Saturday, April 17 – LAKE HUGHES: LEONA DIVIDE 50-MILE ULTRA, 19th annual, 6 a.m. Includes 50K (32.4-mile) "short" course for runners age 55 and older. Modified course this year includes 39.5 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail and 10.5 miles on dirt roads, all hilly. $75 by 4/1/10; $100 thereafter. No DOR registration. Saturday-Sunday, April 17-18 – QUARTZ HILL: ACS RELAY FOR LIFE, Nicholson Field, Quartz Hill High School. Spring 24-hour walk / jog / run on the QHHS track as fund raiser for the American Cancer Society.

Sunday, April 18 – SANTA CLARITA: FOOTSTEPS 5K / 1K, Newhall Park, 24907 Newhall Ave., 1K at 8 a.m., 5K at 8:15. 20th annual. Awards 3-deep in 5-year A/G. $25 for 5K, $15 for 1K, includes T-shirt. Fund raiser for the Assistance League of the Santa Clarita Valley. More info: alsc@email.com.

Friday, April 23 – LANCASTER: FOOTHILL CONFERENCE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRACK PRELIMS, Antelope Valley College, Marauder Stadium.

Saturday, April 24 – PALMDALE: RUN AGAINST VIOLENCE 5K, Pelona Vista Park, 8:30 a.m., includes kids' 1K at 9:15. Fund raiser for the Valley Oasis / Antelope Valley Domestic Violence Council, which provides comprehensive services to victims of family violence and their children. 11th annual. Sunday, April 25 – CASTAIC: MERRELL DOWN & DIRTY MUD RUN, Castaic Lake Recreation Area. Includes 5K and 10K through an off-road muddy course that includes military-style obstacles, water crossings and a huge mud pit just before the finish line. Part of a national series. Saturday, May 1 – LANCASTER: THE BOULEVARD MILE. Multiple one-mile races for various age groups. Course starts at The Marketplace shopping center and heads north on Valley Central Way, turning into the Lancaster Municipal (JetHawks) Stadium parking area to the finish inside the stadium. Sunday, May 2 – CASTAIC: CASTAIC LAKE 10-MILE / 5K, Castaic Lake Recreation Area, 8 a.m.

Saturday, May 8 – PALMDALE/LANCASTER: HDR TRAIN FUN RUN, 9:15 a.m., about seven miles. Meet at the Lancaster Metrolink station at Sierra Highway & Milling Street. We will take the 9:40 a.m. train to the Palmdale station, and then run back along the Sierra Highway bike/jog trail back to the Lancaster station. The one-way train ride costs $4.50. Sunday, May 16 – MOUNTAIN TRAIL FUN RUN, Pacific Crest Trail, Agua Dulce to Sierra Pelona Ridge (11 miles). Out & back route entirely on the PCT. Saturday, May 15 – VICTORVILLE: SPRING VALLEY /MOJAVE NARROWS 1/2 MARATHON & 5K, Spring Valley Lake, 13229 Country Club Dr., Victorville. Also half-marathon rely and kids 1 mile run and 20 and 50-mile bike rides. Start time listed at 11:59 p.m., but awards ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. (????). $35 half-marathon / bike rides, $30 for 5K, $50 for relay, & $10 for kids mile. Register: www.Active.com.

Friday / Saturday May 21-22 – LANCASTER: STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS, Antelope Valley College, Marauder Stadium.

Sunday, May 23 – SANTA CLARITA: SANTA CLARITA RUNNERS' WOMEN'S 5K. 8 a.m. S/F at the Lowe's store, 26415 Bouquet Canyon Rd. Flat & fast, out & back course on pedestrian paseos. Balega socks to all registered runners. $15; $7 if age 17 or under with adult. Proceeds benefit Santa Clarita Food Pantry, participants encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to event. Saturday, May 29 – WEST LANCASTER: HDR POPPY TROT II FUN RUN, 9 a.m., Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, 15101 W. Lancaster Road, about 15 miles west of Lancaster. Enjoy the profusion of poppies and other wildflowers while touring up to seven miles of trails on the Poppy Reserve. This is a follow-up to the Poppy Trot held March 20. The state parks department charges $8 for parking, so car pooling is recommended. Alan Brown, host, 949-8197. NOTE – This second Poppy Trot is TENTATIVE at this time.

Wednesday, June 16, MOUNTAIN TRAIL FUN RUN, Billy Goat Hill Climb, 6:30 p.m. start. (1 mile up, 4 down). Meet at turnout along Bouquet Canyon Rd., one mile northeast of the dam. Climb 1,120 feet in one mile. Winner is whoever comes closest to their predicted time – no watches allowed! Joe and Kathy Diorio, hosts, 661-256-9373.
